Investigations: Undercover Investigations
Do you suspect alcohol or drug abuse in your workforce?
Have employees complained of drug dealing at work?
Have you experienced sabotage of machinery or product
tampering?
Are
your supervisors really supervising?
Are employees stealing from your company?
A well-managed undercover investigation will result in:
- Improved morale
- Increased productivity
- Decrease in product defects
Placing an undercover operative into the workplace is one of the
most effective investigative tools available for corporations to
eliminate substance abuse and criminal activity. Undercover operatives
document activities involving drug trafficking, drug and alcohol
abuse, theft, and other company policy violations. Successful undercover
operations are the result of careful planning and effective management.
Methodology: Before initiating an undercover
investigation, our management team carefully analyzes the perceived
problem. Working closely with the client, we determine the objectives
of the investigation and develop a strategy to effectively address
the issues.
Operative Selection: The success of an
operation begins with the careful selection of the operative, and
NASS places great emphasis on this selection process. Often, success
of the operation depends on the operative's compatibility with the
geographic area and cultural structure of the workforce.
Management of the Operation: The NASS
operation manager maintains daily contact with the operative, setting
weekly goals designed to keep the operation moving forward. Throughout
the operation, the operative and the operation manager maintain
frequent communication with a police contact. Monthly operation
meetings are conducted with the operative, operation manager, client
personnel, and the police contact. This team approach is critical
to the success of the operation.
Background
of the Operatives: NASS operatives are recruited from the
criminal justice field, including law enforcement and military police
personnel experienced in drug investigations. Applicants undergo
a thorough background investigation and drug screening prior to
entering the NASS training academy. Operatives are routinely drug
tested throughout the undercover assignment.
Training: Operatives complete four weeks
of academy training instructed by NASS management, law enforcement,
and criminal justice professionals. The academy curriculum includes
Drug Identification, Drug Schedules & Drug Laws, Undercover Techniques,
Drug Simulation, Courtroom Testimony, Rules of Evidence, Chain of
Custody, Computer Operation, and Report Writing. Daily field training
exercises are incorporated into the training process, allowing the
operatives to apply the investigative techniques acquired during
classroom instruction.
Operative Reports: Throughout the investigation,
NASS operatives use laptop computers to prepare daily reports, documenting
all illegal activity and company policy violations. Daily, reports
are transmitted electronically to a secure computer at the NASS
operations center.
Client Reports: Reports are provided
regularly, keeping you informed on the progress of the investigation.
NASS can also electronically transmit these reports to clients with
a secure computer. Monthly progress reports are provided, summarizing
the operative's activity.
Technical Support: NASS operatives are
issued covert cassette recorders to record conversations pertinent
to the operation. Covert video systems are installed in the operative's
vehicle enabling him/her to make a complete audio and video recording
of drug activity.
